Alzheimer's: A red herring ...

... A promising drug does not keep its promises ...

Two studies were devoted in recent years a new drug, Semagacestat, designed to stop Alzheimer's disease. Unfortunately, it is ineffective and has adverse side effects. Research has been stopped.

In the case of Alzheimer's disease, plaques of proteins called beta-amyloid "accumulates in the brain. The assumption was, therefore, for many researchers, that these clusters were responsible for Alzheimer's disease and the drug, the subject of studies now discontinued, was just cut those famous plates. On this side, he played his role perfectly. The protein plaques were much diminished in the brains of patients affected by the studies. But these people have not seen their condition improve. Neither they nor their memory cognitive functions have received treatment and is the worst, their ability to perform everyday tasks has weakened further ...

For Dr. Judes Poirier, Quebec biochemist specializing in Alzheimer's disease, these results have surprising: "In mice as in the elderly, the presence of plaques of amyloid beta-protein is not associated with neuronal loss or loss of memory, even when the brain is full of amyloid.

Other hypotheses regarding the causes of Alzheimer's disease must be addressed if we want to find remedies.

Although there is no effective medication to treat Alzheimer's disease, a number of studies have shown that it is possible to slow its evolution

- According to research Brazilian scientists, some herbs such as lemon balm, sage and Ginkgo biloba in reducing symptoms associated with the disease.
- An active social and intellectual life (playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, meet friends, have a community life ...), food rich in omega 3 and regular exercise are all assets to also limit the influence of disease on quality of life.

... We must pass the Knowledge and Truth ... ...
Truth always ends up Know ...
